In the first few weeks after my brother died, I gathered my courage and visited a community bereavement support centre. When I asked about a sibling group, this is what they said.
I’m grateful this happened because this is what ignited my interest in sibling loss as a research area. I wanted to understand why it seemed my loss didn’t matter as much as other losses.
As I began my work, I learned this is a very common occurrence and sibling loss groups are very rare. There are several online groups now which is great.
